Plastic packaging in the spotlight: DEFRA has confirmed following consultation its intention to ban plastic drinking straws, drinks stirrers and cotton buds. View >  View >  British Beer and Pubs Association > In a parallel move the EU Commission has finalised a directive to require EU member states to ban one trip plastic plates, cutlery, straws, balloon sticks and cotton buds by 2021 and to set a 90% collection target for plastic bottles by 2029, with 25% recycled content by 2025. View >  View >   DEFRA sponsored Waste Resources Action Plan (WRAP) has issued a first year progress report on the ‘Plastics pact’. View >

Petition for EU wide colour coded nutritional labelling system: 
EU consumer group BEUC has noted the launch by seven national consumer groups of a joint call for EU adoption of the nutri-score simplified colour coded nutritional labelling system. View >

CMA publish draft order prohibiting ASDA-Sainsbury’s merger: 
The Competition and Markets Authority has published its draft order for consultation until 24th June.  View >

Consultation on national flood and coastal erosion strategy:

Independent report on tackling Modern Slavery published: 
The final detailed report produced by Frank Field MP, Maria Miller MP and Baroness Butler-Sloss examining progress following introduction of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and reporting requirements has been published by the Home Office and a Government response is awaited.View >  View >
