CMA issues final report on proposed ASDA- Sainsbury merger: The CMA has blocked the Sainsbury’s-Asda merger after finding it would lead to increased prices in stores, online and at many petrol stations across the UK. The CMA’s investigation found that, as well as affecting in-store customers, the merger would result in increased prices and reduced quality of service, such as fewer delivery options when shopping online and concluded that the only solution was to block the proposed deal. EU Directive bans unfair trading practices in agricultural and food supply chains: EU Directive 2019/633 requires all EU member states to implement a ban on a number of commercial practices considered to be unfair in agricultural and food supply chains by November 2021.
