Retail, Food, and Hospitality Regulatory Update w/e 29 September: Safety of sushi production, one year update on food waste reduction, and consumer activities in Scotland.

Safety of sushi production and processing in the spotlight: The Food Safety Authority Ireland (FSAI) has conducted a major audit of food businesses producing and processing Sushi. FSAI found 90% of businesses audited had inadequate controls in place on production and processing activities, 75% did not meet legal requirements for freezing fish for parasite control and that more than 90% did not have adequate operational controls for sushi rice production. View >

 

Grocery Code Adjudicator promotes her activities: Christine Tacon, the Grocery Code Adjudicator, has published a webinar and is to launch a series of YouTube clips. 50% of contacts from suppliers are about delisting, 25% on delay to payments and 15% about variation of supply agreements.  The GCA has also published on its website progress made against the top issues raised. View >


One year update on food waste reduction road map published:
The Waste and Resources Action Plan has published an update that 156 businesses constituting more than half of UK Food industry turnover have signed up to the Roadmap to target, measure and act on food waste. View >


Competition and Markets Authority emphasises its consumer activities in Scotland:
 
The CMA has held what it describes as a major event in Scotland emphasising that it now has an office in Edinburgh employing 53 staff and is developing space for a further 50. The event at its new offices explored the challenges faced by consumers and how best to tackle them. View >
