Advertising rulings on making price comparisons: The Advertising Standards Authority has issued three further rulings this week:
- Mercury Holidays – Lack of evidence of reasonable availability of holidays advertised at ‘from’ prices View >
- Wren Kitchens ‘50% Off plus a further 20%’ Complaint upheld as the further 20% related to bulk purchase rather than previous price. View >
- House of Bruar – Price comparison complaint rejected based on price history provided. View >
Green paper published on modernising consumer markets: Business Secretary Greg Clark has published a far reaching set of proposals for consultation including the following:
- Creation of a strong national consumer protection enforcement body
- Introduction of civil penalty powers in respect of unfair contract terms
- Improving consumer access and business take up of Alternative dispute resolution schemes
- Testing requirement for clarity of terms and conditions
- New consumer forum to be chaired by Minister
- Regular publication of consumer performance date for businesses in regulated sectors
