Retail Food and Hospitality Brexit round-up 4 November

Another week and yet more confusion.  As soon as news breaks that a deal may be near, we start to hear that substantial issues remain and it doesn't appear that close after all.  We all know it is not agreed until it is all agreed, and hope the rumour of a deal this month might be true; it really cannot happen soon enough.

Brexit Developments

Scottish Government make online tool available for businesses: The Scottish Government has launched a detailed online guidance tool aimed at assisting Scottish businesses in their preparations for Brexit. View>

UK Competition and Markets Authority sets out increased post Brexit roles: The CMA has set out its future roles under State Aid, mergers and antitrust controls. View> View> View> View> View> View>

EU Commission publishes  ‘annual report’ on EU trade agreement activities: 
The EU Commission has published its second annual report on its trade deal activities. The report details developments as regards to 35 EU trade agreements (out of 39 in total). These include:

  • "First generation" agreements, before 2006, that focus on tariff elimination;
  • "Second generation" agreements, like those with South Korea, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, Central America and most recently, Canada, that extend to new areas, including intellectual property rights, services and sustainable development
  • Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas (DCFTAs) that create stronger economic links between the EU and its neighbouring countries
  • Economic Partnership Agreements focusing on development needs of African, Caribbean and Pacific regions. View>

BEIS has published Consumer Protection (EU Exit) Regulations 2018: To provide continuity on Brexit. View>
