  • Advertising rulings: The Advertising Standards Authority has ruled as follows:
    • Steinhoff:
    Failure to provide substantiation of period for which pre-reduction price applied. View > 
    • Ernest Jackson T/A Bassetts vitamins:
    Complaint rejected re use of term ‘no added’ sugars. View >
    • ASDA:
    Lack of clarity that copy was advertising rather than editorial. View >

  • Parliamentary report on plastic bottles: The parliamentary environmental audit committee has published a report ‘Turning back the tide of plastic’ recommending that a deposit return requirement should be imposed on all single trip plastic drinks bottles. View >

  • Publicity campaign on calorie intakes: Public Health England has announced its intention to launch a campaign on calorie intakes providing guidance that 20% of calories come from the first meal of the day, 30% each from two subsequent meals and 20% from snacks. View >

  • Prime Ministers statement to parliament on December EU Council meeting outcome: View >

  • EU publish directives for transition negotiations: The EU Commission has published its negotiating position in respect of a transitional period for UK exit setting out its red lines which are basically full application of EU law. View >

  • Business advice for UK Government:  
    The CBI has published a report analysing the 40 or so EU technical bodies and which the UK will need to remain associated with post Brexit. View > 
    The British retail consortium has published a report on the importance of UK being able to retain the benefits of EU trade deals with third countries post Brexit. View >
